The brilliance of Indian culture comes from the quick calculations of mathematics. Vedic Mathematics is a book written by Guru Shree Bharati Krishna Tirthaji a Hindu priest who introduced speedy mental math calculations to the world. Guru Tirthaji built up sixteen sutras and its sub-divisions for easily cracking any math problem through your mental ability.

The Power of Vedic Maths

Mathematics is a subject that is widely used commercially and non-commercially across the globe. Not to mention its great usage in competitive exams for medicine, engineering, business administration and other similar tests. Regardless of whether you are a business person or a teacher or you are a homemaker numbers are an essential in our day to day lives. One of the most profound people known for their maths is Shakuntala Devi, a woman who performed complex mathematical problems faster than a computer. Believe it or not this is not impossible, all it needs is practice, focus and the enthusiasm to learn and strengthen your application of figures.

Let us see some calculations that can be solved within seconds through Vedic Maths,

So, we are going to take two numbers and multiply them with each other. Let us take 81 and 11. Now imagine there is a space between the numbers eight and one from eighty one –

**81 * 11 equals to 8__1 (The double underscore is for space)**

Now, what do we do with the space? Simple, add up the number 8 (eight) and 1 (one) and put the result in the imaginary space. So, the answer will be 891. Isn’t that super amazing? Yes, it is!! Let us try the same with some other numbers, let’s take examples of

**48 * 11 = 4 (4+8) 8 = 528
98 * 11 = 9 (9+8) 8 = 1078**

Most of us must be wondering, how we wish we knew this when we were little especially when we were given math tasks that were extremely difficult to crack.

Let us take another example of a calculation that was listed on a question paper of a competitive exam, the question was, ‘Is the number 456138 divisible by 9?’ This seems complicated and well without Vedic Maths it is – For someone who goes through the normal method of calculating this sum it may take around 30 seconds but the student who goes about with this question through the lightening Vedic method it may just take 10 seconds, you want to know how? Let’s see through with this example,

The first step to know if the number 456138 is divisible by 9 is by adding up the numbers,

**4 + 5 + 6 + 1 + 3 + 8 = 27**

The number 27 is divisible by 9? Yes, because 9 * 3 equals to 27 which means it is divisible by the number 9. Now, these are some tricks we have got to teach our generations to come not only for strengthening their minds but building their interest in the most tedious subject of all times.

These are just a few calculations mentioned here but there are several such methods and applications that can help not only children from school but also students appearing for graduation and post-graduation tests across the globe. Though this method has been criticized by many in the academic fields it still has a good hold in the area of studies that it is used in. Great mathematician and educators of all times who have promoted Vedic Maths not only as a great source of solving complex numbers but also gauging the capacity and abilities of the underlying psychology of children when it comes to problem solving.
